COP28 Side-Event "On the Pathway to Decarbonize Electricity Grids: SF6 Transparency and Phase-out"

In the context of its pursuit of a global SF6 phase-out, NDE Germany organizes the COP28 side-event “On the Pathway to Decarbonize Electricity Grids: SF6 Transparency and Phase-out”, together with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and hosted by the UN Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).

The event addresses the visibility of the impacts of SF6 and presents SF6-free alternatives. It provides recommendations on the necessary steps to create a transparent SF6 inventory system and developing an enabling environment for a complete phase-out. Experts provide insights on the regulatory and technology requirements, as well as the success case of the recently adopted EU regulation on phasing out SF6. Pathways for developing countries to phasing out SF6 are presented as well.
