22nd World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The 22nd World Hydrogen Energy conference, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro from June 17th to 22nd 2018 at the Windsor Convention & Expo Center Barra da Tijuca.
Under the motto “Power and biomass to hydrogen”, we received 570 abstracts from Brazilian and international authors on different topics in the in the hydrogen energy fields. With 62 submissions, Germany is the second strongest country on overall abstracts submissions.
The conference will be chaired by Prof. Paulo Emílio de Miranda from Coppe/UFRJ, the Hydrogen Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, under the auspices of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE).
Conference participants will have the opportunity to visit the trade fair, participate in various events and roundtables and join a tour to the Itaipu Binacional Hydropower Plant. Furthermore, participants can actively engage in the CTCN (Climate Technology Centre and Network) Workshop taking place during the WHEC.
The Brazilian and the European Hydrogen Associations have a CTCN Technical Assistance Project, which will finalize with a workshop “Global Interaction and the Use of Natural Resources for the Hydrogen Production”. This workshop aims at showing that it is possible today to generate hydrogen by renewable sources in Brazil in large scale. Brazil is one of the leading countries worldwide in the use of regenerative energy for stationary and transport applications in large scale. According to the Brazilian Ministry of Energy, in 2016, 82,8 % of electricity was produced from renewable sources, offering a wide range of sources for a clean and sustainable hydrogen production.
