Workshop on Technology Cooperation to Advance New Markets and Strengthen International Climate Action

In November 2019, shortly before COP25, the German National Designated (NDE Germany) invited representatives of German companies, ministries and organisations to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) to exchange views on how we can not only react to changes, but also actively shape future action through targeted technology cooperation. The discussion focused on the possible linking of the instruments of the technology mechanism under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) with the envisaged market mechanisms under the Paris Convention (Article 6). Participants agreed that market mechanisms, if designed well, can facilitate the transfer of climate-friendly technologies to developing countries. The summary of the workshop can be found here.

In the run-up to the workshop, the NDE Germany on behalf of the BMWi interviewed German technology providers about their strategies in climate protection and their view on upcoming changes and prepared a study on potential fields of technology in developing countries.
