The NDE Germany will be present at the Africa Climate Week 2018, joined by representatives of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and industry partners.

The first African Climate Week (ACW) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from April 9-13, 2018. The ACW aims at bringing together both public and private sector to address the need for climate action in Africa. The focus will be on the financial framework for enabling mitigation and adaptation measures. Workshops, panel discussions, exhibits and meetings will be held at this international event. The ACW aims to enhance the support for the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

The week starts off with the CTCN Regional Forum, where African NDEs will share their view on the current state of the Technology Mechanism and its implementation with the CTCN.

On Tuesday, the discussion will focus on the implementation of Technology Needs Assessments and the development of Technology Action Plans. The Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, in its role as the NDE Germany, will be joining the discussion on closing the implementation gap within this session.

A cocktail reception on Tuesday evening hosted by the NDE Germany and the NDE Kenya, aims at bringing together suppliers and consumers of climate technology, private enterprises as well as public institutions. With this matchmaking event, the NDE Germany seeks to provide an informal platform to address how carbon markets could accelerate the development and transfer of climate technologies. The CEO of thyssenkrupp for Sub-Saharan Africa together with a representative of the German Industry and Commerce in Kenya as well as the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety will address the guests of the matchmaking event as keynote speakers.

The Africa Carbon Forum will take place from Wednesday, April 11 to Friday, April 13 and is a cornerstone event evolving around carbon markets and climate financing. In the setting of the Technology Expert Meeting on Friday, April 13, Mr. Thabo Molekoa, CEO of thyssenkrupp for Sub-Saharan Africa, will give a short presentation on the application of climate-friendly technology in the African context.
